If there is anything that should be noted about this programme, it is its historical improbability At a time when the concept of “authenticity” is discussed, rethought, questioned, denied, what we propose is a historically improbable programme built on criteria of historical probability.

The recorders used on this recording are faithful reproductions of period instruments from several different museums, that were originally made by two different workshops, working perhaps as much as 50 years apart. Little is known about the makers of renaissance woodwind instruments; their instruments were rarely signed and so the small differences in the design, inevitably leads us into the realm of speculation.
