- A truly "revolutionary" CD, consisting of works written around the Revolution year 1789. Revolutionary, because it offers the opportunity to discover the real sound world of' music that music lovers think they already knew ...
- The programme was chosen in such a way that all the possibilities and nuances of the Fortepiano could be used and also comprises some of the most famous and best keyboard works of both Mozart and Haydn (among them Mozart's Sonata K. 540, better known us the Sonate Facile, a title later given to the work by the publisher).
- Total length of the CD is 75 min. and 43 seconds !
- In the booklet a full colour picture of the instrument, black and white pictures of Mozart's own Fortepiano by Walter, and articles on the historical perspectives of the Fortepiano by Jos van Immerseel himself and a full and very interesting description of the instrument by builder Christopher Clarke.
- The recording has captured the unique sound of the Clarke/Walter Fortepiano in all its splendour and this, together with Jos van Immerseel's masterful interpretations will undoubtedly make this CD the standard for all new fortepiano recordings to come.
Jos van Immerseel, who was born in Antwerp, Belgium, studied plano, organ and harpsichord at the Antwerp Royal Flemish Music Conservatory which he all finished with first prizes. Already around 1970 he became interested in the Fortepiano and nowadays he is one of the driving forces behind the revival of the Fortepiano. He recently had an outstandingly beautiful new Fortepiano built by Christopher Cinrke after a fortepiano by Anton Walter (Vienna 1790), the same instrument both Mozart and Haydn owned. On this instrument he played this programme. Jos van Immerseel made his first fortcepiano recording already in 1977 (Schubert on a Conrad Graf instrument for CBS) which was then internationally praised as a new standard. The present GLOBE recording (the first of a series we intend to record with Jos van Immerseel) shows clearly why Jos van lmmerseel is considered to be one of the great interpreters and authorities on per·ormance style all over the world.
