German Harpsichord Music before Bach

• Another major release on Globe in the field of early music!

• This programme gives a far more extensive survey of the incredibly high level of harpsichord composing in Germany before the time of J.S. Bach than any other recording solely devoted to works by such great composers as Froberger and Buxtehude. 

• Although there are virtually no original German harpsichords left from this period, we nevertheless achieved to come as close to the original sound ideals as possible in using magnificent copies of early 18th century German harpsichords, one of them especially built for this recording by the famous Amsterdam builder Joop Kllnkhomer. 

• Most harpsichord CDs are devoted to works by one composer, but from international reviews (in, among others, the English magazine The Gramophone), we have learned that there Is a growing interest in recital recordings such as this one, because or its musical variety.

Jacques Ogg was born in Maastricht and studied harpsichord at the Conservatory in his city of birth with Anneke Uittenbosch. In 1970 he went to study with Gustav Leonhardt at the Amsterdam Sweelinck Conservatory, from which he graduated in 1974. Not only as harpsichordist but also as forte piano player, he appeared all over Europe and in North and South America as well as Japan. He is the regular accompanist of eminent musicians such as Wilbert Hazelzet, Anner Bijlsma, Max van Egmond, Ricardo Kanji and Alda Stuurop and member of several leading baroque ensembles like Les Élements Amsterdam, Concerto Paletino, Quartetto Amsterdam and Quintetto Domenico. Jacques Ogg is professor at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and at the Academy for Ancient Music in Amsterdam. He also regularly gives master classes in Cambridge, Granada, Madrid (EI Escorial), Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro and Montevideo.
