- Vivaldi is nowadays mostly associated with his brilliant Four Seasons, but at the height of his international fame during the 1720s, it was possible to hear a Vivaldi concerto in any one of the major European capitals, from London to Paris, from Amsterdam to Dresden! Vivaldi also wrote for every combination of instruments he could think of, and the chamber concertos recorded here belong to the group of works in which he managed to bridge the gap between orchestral and chamber music.

- These are concertos in which a handful of soloists impersonate an entire orchestra, and Vivaldi's unmistakable style comes through in all these works. But this is, above all, enchanting and captivating music of the highest level with the recorder as the linking element of the concertos.

- Before committing their spirited performances to disc, the Ensemble Senario made a highly successful concert tour with these concertos during the Holland Festival of Ancient Music 1993.

- The Ensemble Senario plays on period instruments and their brilliant and highly spirited performances have been captured in glorious sound!

The Ensemble Senario was especially founded for this recording, although its members have already been playing together for a long time and with great success. They are all members of famous orchestras and soloists in their own right: Saskia Coolen is well-known as a member of 'La Fontegara and Camerata Trajectina; Peter Frankenberg performs with, among others, the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, La Petite Bande and the Academy of Ancient Music; Johannes Leertouwer does not need any further introduction; Kees Koelmans is a member of the Orchestra of the 18th Century and co-founder of the Baroque Orchestra of the Netherlands Bach Society; David Mings plays baroque bassoon in such famous orchestras as les Arts Florissants, Musica Antiqua Koln, La Petite Bande and is also a member of La Dada; Jacques Ogg is one of today's leading harpsichord players and very well represented in the Globe catalogue, while Peters Rikkers is the regular violone player of, among others, the Ensemble A415, Cappella Figuralis and the Capella Musicale di San Petronio, Bologna.
