A selection of Hugo Wolff's extremely interesting and beautiful early songs which show him already as the greatest of Lieder composers. So far, some of these songs have only been recorded by Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau for Claves (a recording dating from 1987 and not generally available). They are performed here in the original keys (!) by Nico van der Meel, one of the finest tenors of the younger generation who has established an international reputation of the highest order with his performances of (among others) the Evangelist parts in Bach's Passions. Nico van der Meel is also an accomplished Lieder singer as this CD shows.
