Surprised, because this is a release on Globe, the label with the serious image, known over the world for, among others, its recordings of 18th and 19th century music on authentic instruments?! But for once we decided to let our hair down (or rather: what's left of it...) and do something different. We first heard Barbara Kennedy and Peter Lockwood do some of these songs at a rather mad New Year's Eve party. Now Miss Kennedy is a serious classical singer with a string of operatic successes to her name. Mister Lockwood is Head of Music Staff at the Netherlands Opera and forms a highly successful classical piano duo with Julian Reynolds (witness the Opera 4 Hands and Saint-Saëns CDs on Globe). But their performances of these great and also classical songs from the musical stage were so delightful that we decided to do something really out of the ordinary on Globe and record them. This then is the result: "Great Songs of Love and Laughter", with a cover that will certainly appeal to a certain public...
