Frank Fauré Debussy

- Dmitry Ferschtman's first solo recording for Globe with Great Russian Cello Sonatas was an unqualified international success, and his contributions to Globe's Tchaikovsky recording with Nieuw Sinfonietta Amsterdam conducted by Lev Markiz, also met with nothing but the highest praise.

- This beautiful program of Great French Cello Sonatas shows Ferschtman and his also extremely talented and accompanist at their very best again. Franck Sonata, originally written for violin and piano, has been the virtual property of the great cellists of the century, and Ferschtman's performance adds new lustre to this wonderful piece, a great favourite of old. Après un reve" is, of course, the famous Casals transcription from Fauré's wonderful 'mélodie' and the other three pieces are originals for cello and piano. Debussy's Sonata is an ideal conclusion for a program such as this.

- This recording has been announced already earlier, but due to circumstances it was not made until last month. There have already been requests from all over the world for this second Ferschtman recital, so we gave it full priority.

 

Dmitry Ferschtman was born in Moscow and started his musical training at a very early age at the Central School of Music. At the Moscow Conservatory he studied with, among others, Natalia Gutman. In July 1975 he took part in the last recording of a work by Shostakovich supervised by the composer himself and in 1978 he moved to the Netherlands, from where he started a highly successful career as solo cellist with numerous radio recordings and concert appearances all over the world.

Mila Baslawskaya also studied at the Central School of Music (a division of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory) in her town of birth Moscow. She graduated 'cum laude' from the Moscow Conservatory in 1970 and emigrated with her husband Dmitry Ferschtman in 1978 to the Netherlands, from where she pursued her career as recitalist and chamber music player.
