After their first successful duo album Crescent where pianist Atzko Kohashi and bassist Tony Overwater celebrated the John Coltrane album Crescent, they now recorded a new album in celebration of drummers. They selected 8 compositions by drummers and added three songs dedicated to drummers. The drummer as a composer is a somewhat overlooked quality and by playing their compositions without drums it puts the spotlight on the compositional quality of the drummers. Compositions by Paul Motian, Sunny Murray, Jack DeJohnette and Al Foster are the core of this album. The composition The Drum Thing by John Coltrane was one of the few songs the duo didn’t record on their album crescent and it forms a bridge between the two albums. Composition by Tony Overwater and Charlie Haden complete the album ‘A Drum Thing'.

The album was recored at the beautiful radio studios of MCO in Hilversum by the some sound technician Frans de Rond. His superb recording techniques caught all the details of the delicate music played by Atzko Kohashi and Tony Overwater.
